Q. Is the EWS Reservation Eligibility criteria the same and uniform all across states in India?
Ans. Even though the Central Government of India brought the EWS criterion, states can also have their cut-offs for income, etc. Difference between EWS and OBC reservations
Important Points
⦁ The OBC reservations are for the non-creamy layer (OBC-NCL) section of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) section. For OBC, a 27% reservation is given. The EWS is for that section of the ‘General category’ classes ( that are not covered under SC, ST, or OBC) whose family income and gross income must be less Rs. 8 lakhs. For those candidates only, a 10% reservation in seats is provided as EWS Category.
⦁ There will be a separate (lower or higher than other) cut-off for the EWS belonging candidates, in the same manner as OBC, SC, and ST candidates get their reservation benefits. Moreover, there is not any other relaxation concerning the number of attempts in any exam and the upper age limit for applying for any exam.
⦁ Another difference between OBC and EWS category reservations is that in mentioning the gross family income. In the case of OBC candidates, the income of the spouse is not included and calculated. On the contrary, it is included and mentioned in the EWS category reservation.
